February 6th- Transplant status

First off…BILL IS HOME!!!! Sleeping in his own bed and watching TV on the couch.
His blood has recovered and bone marrow is doing it’s thing. It is GREAT to have him at home. Company is welcome for short visits (15 min) because rest, healing, and staying healthy are the most important goals right now.

I have been in contact with the transplant coordinator. It takes 4-5 days for the extraction process. Our 26 year old male donor, if he lives in the United States, is going to be given a choice of 3 dates to come to Loyola. If he is from the International Donor Pool, then the extraction of bone marrow will be done in his home country. A transporter will fly to Europe and bring back the bone marrow in a cooler. Even our doctors do not know who the donor is, or where he lives. We will find out his name one year after the transplant.
In the meantime, Bill needs to be in remission and good health for all this to be placed into action. The coordinator says we are looking at about 6 weeks from now. That would put this procedure at the end of March. But, remember, we are on hospital time.

Our church family and Questors Sunday School Class, have jumped right back into action. Dinner is being brought to us almost every night, and transportation is being provided to the airport next week when we go to Seattle. Everyone that is helping with just one thing, adds up to a whole lot of help for us. Thank you, we are blessed.

Please pray for Bill’s recovery of strength. And a parting of the clouds next week to allow for easy air travel. Chicago has had it’s share of snow and ice this winter, and airport cancellations. Thank you for your prayers.

WELCOME HOME'''''

I know both of you are happy to be out of the hospital. Looks as if you need Maggie there to read you stories before bedtime. She is a cutie! We hope all goes well for the trip to Washington next week. We have had warmer weather but lots of tornado watches and storm warnings. Gets lots of R & R for the trip next week.

Hang in there!!

Bill, my prayers continue for you. Just keep remembering there is only one set of footprints in the sand right now! Doesn't it feel good to know He is carrying you and holding you close in His arms.

Hugs and Blessings,
Dori from AZ

I have been thinking of you all day!
Bill, Three cheers that you are home, and Nurse Nancy is taking care of you once again. We will continue to pray that your strength will increase and you will be ready for your trip to Seattle next week.

Wish we could come for a 15 minute visit.

And as our daughter, EB, would say,"wash those hands".

Love,
Paula and Jim

Home is definitely a good thing - and with all the friends helping, Bill will think it is a vacation!! Good food and rest will make him healthy, wealthy and wise - well maybe just healthy and wise - well maybe just healthy, but that is what we need!!

I am sure 6 weeks will pass before any of us realize, and the next step will finallly be able to be taken. Seattle will definitely be a change in scenery - Chicago in the winter - No envy here!!

Stay on that road to recovery and health.

Love, prayers, and good health,
Gail

So glad you are home. Must be something to lay in your own comfy bed. Hospital beds are the pits. May you keep that blood work up and keep the germs away.
Aunt Nancy is doing a great job in Nursing, maybe there is a job for her in the near future. I only wish I could help too. It gives the family here peace of mind to know that you have such a great community there helping you out. Family is always with you though. You are in our thoughts and prayers daily, hourly, and by the minutes. So glad to hear the transplant is in the works. May God answer your prayers with any decisions.

Love you & Think of you often,
E.B.

I'm so glad you're home, Bill. Prayers are being sent everyday. I don't always check the blog but I've caught the two latest ones with rejoicing for the good news. Fingers are crossed for good flying weather next week so all you have to do is show up!

Love to both of you,

Barbara and Bill

OK I am back in business. How sweet of you to think of us Tues. Things are a mess here, but we were lucky. I know Bill is happy to be home. I am little confused when you mentioned the marrow was doing its thing. is that different from the bone marrow transplant? I wish you the best in Seattle and know of course you will keep us informed. God bless both of you.
Love Pat

Bill and Nancy,

I'm so glad to hear that you're home again! Hooray! Although I guess by now you've been home for a few days.... I hope you've been able to rebuild some of your strength (and patience!) now that you're in a more comfortable environment. Best of luck in Seattle; I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that the weather stays clear!
