February 9th- Seattle Trip Canceled

As much as we want to visit the Seattle Cancer Center, it won’t happen this month. Bill is not well enough to travel. His blood counts have not recovered as quickly as we had hoped and he is still anemic, neutropenic, and low on platelets. Plus, he is very tired, sleeping about 18 hours a day. The doctor said he is doing as well as a 20 year old would do after 4 rounds of chemo. I’m sure Bill doesn’t feel like a 20 year old right now.
The doctor is giving Bill this week to recover. The following week Bill will have a bone marrow biopsy to determine if his bone marrow is “clean”. With good test results and an improvement in his health, he will be one step closer to a transplant.
Our prayers this week are for Bill’s improved health and appetite. He lost another 15 pounds with this round of chemo and 4 ½ weeks in the hospital since January 2. But, tonight, he got the “clean plate” award eating meat loaf and baked potato followed by ice cream, his favorite dessert right now.
Your prayers hold us up and keep us going. Thank you.

Bill and Nancy,
For as much as I am disappointed that the Seattle trip is cancelled, I am happy that you are home and that appetite is good enough for that kind of eating. That sounded like a Kentucky supper! =)
My prayers are with you each and every day.

As always, your fellow former LCC bell ringer,

Jill

Okay, so my church letters are tangled... FCC, as in First Christian Church in London, KY. I now live in Liberty, MO and our church is LCC here. Duh. Apparently, my bell has been rung too many times! ;-)

Like a 20 year old?!? I guess there is positive in everything. The old "food Nazi" from PA is glad you are now a member of the Clean Plate Club. You wouldn't want a visit from the Queen of Food Intake, I can assure you!

Things happen for reasons, and God guides us. Take this as a "point in the right direction" and move forward. Hope awake time gets to be more often - sounds like you and Landon are on the same schedule.

Think of you often - prayers offered as often.

Love, prayers, and good health,
Gail

What a 20 year old!! Sounds good to me. Being (59+1)myself. It would be great to see 20 again, heck even 40! The "Food Nazi" is right. Keep cleaning your plate. I've seen her in action, and trust me you don't want a visit from her or EB either.

Sorry to hear that you won't be making a trip to Seattle. God must have a reason for keeping you in the Windy City.

Keep sleeping, stay warm, and eat your veggies.

Thinking of you and praying often

Love,
Paula

We share your disappointed about the Seattle trip. However, I have to believe that God will open another door of opportunity for you. I don't know what awaits for us all, but I do know that meatloaf can "cure what ails you"--at least temporarily!
If you are reacting like a 20 year old and the donor from Loyola is 26--will that make you 23 after the transplant? Will that make Nancy the "older woman"?
All our love and prayers...Ann and Jim

I am sorry Seattle did not work out, but it will later I am sure. Thanks again for explaining the bone marrow thing... I think I've got it.
So glad Bill is home where he can rest and have you cooking for him. We were at an exhibit on Politics, Sun. and ran into Becka you friend from Knoxville. We filled her in on Bill, and she sends her best wishes. You are always in our prayers, and when you give the word will do all we can to get there.
Love Pat and Mark

Oh, to be 20 again, again, and again for David and me. Remember, add chocolate to your diet. Chocolate cures anything!!! Hope the reports are better in a week. Saw Laura at the gym. She said she was 5 months. My stomach is bigger that hers!!!! David has his implant next week. He'll call you with his new voice. Think of you guys every day. Hang in there. The good news is that the fourth chemo is over with. Nancy, take care of yourself. Thanks again for keeping us informed.

While you're probably disappointed that the Seattle trip was cancelled, with the unpredictable weather, maybe it's better that it was put off a little longer. At least it's great sleeping weather!

Nancy, if you want to get out for a little bit, please stop by on Sunday! Feel free to stay for as long or as little as you'd like. I was hoping Bill would feel well enough to come to the party, but it looks like it wouldn't be a good idea to be around so many people at this point. I hope his numbers go up soon!

Take care,
Janet and John
