November 10- Third round of chemo is going well

Bill is doing so well. The doctors are controlling nausea and other side effects of chemo with medications. He is walking the halls of the hospital, reading, and eating 3 meals a day. Ever since Bill has had the Leukemia controlled in his spinal fluid, he has been a different person (for the good). Nothing seems as bad, to me, as the first 2 months. And, I might add, he has no pain. Amen.
We learned yesterday that Bill has a very aggressive form of Leukemia. We may not have an option on whether or not to do Bone Marrow Transplant. Our choice is only where to have it done, and as soon as possible.
Bill’s bone marrow biopsy on Wednesday was “CLEAN” again. That is good news, but it is only a matter or time (weeks) before the mutated white cells will grow again.
That is what happened after the first round of chemo when his shin broke out in the Leukemia Cutis. (Which is now healed because of the type of chemo he is taking.)

His eighth and last dosage of chemo begins at 2am Sunday and ends at 6am. He will be home again Sunday afternoon. Phone calls are encouraged. Healthy visitors are welcome until his white cell count drops. Just call and ask.

Monday at 4pm CST, we will meet with the Bone Marrow Transplant specialist to discuss our options, and the treatment plan at Loyola University. Jon and Laura will go with us to ask questions and gather more information. It will be a big day for all of us, so if you happen to think of us, just shoot a prayer our way.

God Bless.

So glad that things are going well and that Bill keeps eating. You know me, the Food Nazi who always worries about food consumption. If you don't already know, just ask my mom! Healthy human beings recover so much quicker - stay healthy! We always have discomfort in the unknown - and the transplant thing is a definite unknown. But ask all the questions that need to be asked and depend on the Good Lord to guide! We will pray, as we always do, for a the new journey to begin!

Love, prayers, and good health,
Gail, Marty, and Mom

Thank goodness for modern medicine! It's wonderful to hear that your biopsy was clean and that you will be home in a few short hours.

If there are any movies you'd like to watch that we can lend you, please let us know! Or if you'd like me to pick up a book for you at the library, just say the word! I'm there pretty often anyway.

Nancy and Bill, keep up the good work, stay strong. We're all rooting for you!

Glad that this round is not as bad as the first. Bone marrow sounds like a good thing and all you have to do is pick the place. Just be sure that the marrow comes from a good southern person so it will counteract the northern heritage. Be sure to ask for the papers on the donor first. Tee Martin lives here in Knoxville and I could call him if you want me to and we could see if he is a match. Sorry - there are a lot of folks on this blog that will not understand the significance of my statement.

Jim and I are so glad that the doctors are able to control the side effects of the chemo. Tennessee had a really good day yesterday. Wish I could say the same for Ohio State. My hometown quarterback, Todd had a really tough day. Please let us know if there is anything we can do besides keeping you in our prayers. We think of you daily.
Love,
Kathy and Jim

Many prayers are coming your way, esp. this afternoon. Glad that Jon and Laura will help you listen and ask.
The Iris Circle meets tonight, and special prayer will be held for all of you.

Howdy!

Keep on fighting! I'm reminded of a quote, though I don't know where I heard it: "Victory is not won in miles, but in inches." Or something along those lines... I can't imagine how small the inches may seem at times, but I know they do eventually make a mile. And if your SPAM e-mail is anything like mine, they're practically giving them away these days... ...okay, maybe a bit inappropriate... 8-)

You guys are always in our thoughts and prayers.

God bless,
Justin and Michelle
