January 1st- Chemo Round Four

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

“They didn’t want to do it”, but the cancer is back and the doctors are once again using an aggressive approach to keep it under control while we wait for a bone marrow donor. His chemotherapy treatment will be another Introductory round (his third- you are only suppose to have one Introductory round) of the drugs Mitoxantrone and Etoposide (also called VP-16). Treatments will begin January 2, and will last for five consecutive days. White “blasts” were found in his bone marrow, only 9% blasts, but that is 9% too many. Bill should come home Sunday or Monday and will be back in ”Nurse Nancy” isolation for 2-3 weeks.
Bill’s previous chemo treatment was November 4th. For the past 2 weeks he has felt almost normal and we have enjoyed getting out, going to church, and being with friends and family on a limited basis. We even “partied” with friends on New Years Eve, even though we were home by 9pm. Bill says he feels better now, then he did in August. He has also gained back 8 lbs of the 30lbs he had lost early on.
Bill has just one prayer request. LORD, WE NEED A DONOR. AMEN.

I pray for that donor daily. So sorry that you had to go back in for more Chemo because I know from Shelby's experience that it knocks you on your butt. It is a New Year and we will all hope and pray for good new things to happen.
PS - VOLS pulled one out again although Wisconson is a good team.

Hi Bill & Nancy,

"Happy New Year" to the Huber Family. So sorry the chemo has to be repeated but glad there is something to be done until a donor can be found.

The pictures of the family are so good of all. The little ones are adorable.

Hang in there and hopefully this will be the year of getting Bill a donor and getting his health restored where he can spend lots of time with the grandchildren.

Love to all,
Mary Jo

Bill, I think the doctors and nurses in the hospital just wanted to see you again! I hope and hope and hope that a donor is found soon so that you won't need any more "intro" rounds of chemo. Take care, stay strong, have faith. A donor will be found.

Bill, Nancy and family,

I wish there was more I could do beyond prayer for a donor...but since that is not the case (I can't even imagine how much smarter I would have to be to have become an oncologist - think of how hard it was for me to read the bass clef during hand bell practice) I just pray double! I'm glad all the family were able to be with you for Christmas - the boost from the grandchildren alone should put down a few blast cells.
Take care of each other,

I am glad you were able to go out for New Year's. I'm sure somewhere in the world was celebrating 2008 at 9:30 pm.

We can all be jealous of EB and Brian, who are at this moment on a cruise in the Caribbean.

Hoping the New Year brings us news of a donor and no more chemo for you.

Thinking of you and Nancy and keeping you always in my prayers.

How 'bout them Eers!!!
Love,
Paula

Hi guys,
After ending 2007 on a pretty good note, this isn't the way we wanted you to start the new year. As someone said before......It may not be what you'd hoped for but at least there is something they can do until a donor comes forward. We are all praying that it will happen very soon. Stay strong...........you are in our thoughts and prayers always. The two of you are truly an inspiration to us all.

Hi Nancy & Bill,
I've been reading your site, and know that I have been praying for you and your family...hold on to HOPE, and never underestimate the power of prayer within all those who unite and pray for a donor for Bill. I hope 2008 brings all of you peace.
Blessings,
Julie Schlegel
